Reflection for the Third Sunday of Lent by Archbishop Michael Jackson

Archbishop Michael Jackson will share a reflection for each Sunday in Lent in connection with our Shine a Light appeal for Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza City, run by our partners in the Diocese of Jerusalem. Each short reflection takes the Gospel of the Sunday and links it to a range of international humanitarian needs, most especially in the context of the sufferings in Gaza and Israel and in the wider region encompassed by the Anglican Diocese of Jerusalem.

The Third Sunday in Lent March 3

St John 2.21: But the temple Jesus was speaking of was his body …

War is in the business of death and of disfiguration, of body and of mind. Some of the damage that it does is all too visible, some of it is invisible and at the same time all too destructive because the human mind cannot let go of it. Once experienced, its mark is there for ever.

Jesus made the bold claim that he embodied religion itself for his day.

For us today this is part of our followership. It means that we are propelled to live our faith in ways that offer to the comprehending and the uncomprehending alike values we discovered last Sunday: service and selflessness, altruism and agency.

Let us pray for those in the wilderness of need today.
