The Revd Prof Anne Lodge has been appointed a Canon of Christ Church Cathedral. Prof Lodge is a Self–Supporting Minister and serves as Priest Scholar of Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin. She is also Director of the Church of Ireland Centre in the DCU Institute of Education. Prof Lodge’s appointment comes following the retirement of Canon Aisling Shine last year.

Announcing the appointment, Archbishop Michael Jackson acknowledged Prof Lodge’s contribution to the Church and education. “The Reverend Canon Professor Anne Lodge has contributed to the worlds of education and of the Church of Ireland for decades in a broad range of ways and at high levels of expertise. She has always offered her instinct to serve and to teach for the benefit of others with generosity and with graciousness,” he commented.

“I welcome her appointment as 12th Canon of Christ Church Cathedral where she already serves with distinction as Priest Scholar. I have confidence that she will continue to develop the life of the Diocesan Cathedral in collaboration with the Dean and now with a seat and voice on the Cathedral Chapter,” he added.

Dean Dermot Dunne welcomed the appointment. “I am very happy with the appointment of Professor Anne Lodge to the 12th Canonry in the Chapter of the cathedral which became vacant on the retirement of Canon Aisling Shine. It is a natural progression for Anne to move into the Chapter of the cathedral having given so much in her time as Priest Scholar in the diocesan cathedral,” he stated.

He continued: “It is also fitting that Anne, a Self–Supporting Priest in the United Dioceses should be appointed as a replacement to Canon Shine who retired as a Non–Stipendiary Priest. I look forward to continuing working with Anne in her ministry in the cathedral as we begin preparations for celebrating the millennium of its foundation. Anne will bring a lot to what is a diverse and talented Chapter which contributes so much to the life of the cathedral.”

Prof Lodge said she looked forward to serving God and his people through her new role. “I am happy to accept the canonry position in the cathedral vacated by Canon Shine who was an NSM. I am both an SSM and Priest Scholar of the diocesan cathedral and feel that acceptance of this vacated canonry will enable me to further serve the Almighty and his people through my work for and in the cathedral and diocese. I thank the Archbishop and the Dean for their faith in my capacity to serve faithfully and to the best of my ability,” she said.

Canon Prof Lodge will be installed during Evensong on April 14. (Please note change of date.)
