Archbishop Michael Jackson celebrated Holy Communion in St Maelruain’s Parish, Tallaght, yesterday morning (Sunday March 3, Third Sunday in Lent).

Together with the Rector, Canon William Deverell, he welcomed people as they arrived, some of them coming directly from night shift work to church.

Commenting on his experience he said: “It was inspiring to worship with people of faith for whom integration and diversity of origin manifests itself in loyalty to God and to the Church of Ireland tradition. I admire the Rector and the congregation for all that they are and all that they do.”

He left those who attended church with the following verse from The Gospel to carry in their hearts throughout the coming week because it encapsulates the goal of Lent in Jerusalem – the death and resurrection of Jesus:

‘Destroy this temple, Jesus replied, and in three days I will raise it up again.’ St John 2.19
