It is with great pleasure that I offer greetings and congratulations to St Kieran’s Girls’ School in Hazaribagh, Diocese of Chotanagpur on the occasion of your centenary. The feast of St Kieran falls on September 9th 2024. It was my pleasure and my honour to be with you to mark this milestone in late August of this year. On that occasion, I was greeted by a happy and joyous school. My experience remains unforgettable along with your generosity.

I want to thank you for maintaining and developing your witness of hope over one hundred years, in offering consistently and courageously education to girls and in empowering them in self–reliance and public service. What you have done and continue to do inspires us, your sisters and brothers in Ireland. I want also to thank all staff and students along with those who have managed and guided the school throughout these years for your constancy, for what one of our prayers in The Church of Ireland calls: patient continuance in welldoing.

St Kieran founded a community in the Middle Ages in the middle of Ireland devoted to learning, art and metalwork and taught his monks to live in harmony with nature. Those skills of community, learning, art, metalwork and ecology are as relevant today as they were then. You stand proudly in that tradition of leadership and of service. May the God who is the creator and the upholder of all protect and bless you on this Day of Days.

Long live St Kieran’s!

The Most Reverend Dr Michael Jackson

Chairperson of Dublin University Mission to Chotanagpur and

Archbishop of Dublin and Bishop of Glendalough

St Kieran’s Day September 9th 2024.
