Who Cares for the Carers? – Evaluation of the Pastoral Support Package

Who Cares for the Carers? – Evaluation of the Pastoral Support Package

A Summary Evaluation Report of the Who Cares for the Carers? Pastoral Support Package 2018–2024 has now been published. The purpose of this summary report, which was undertaken by Canon Professor Anne Lodge as part of her Self–Supporting Ministry, is to give an overview of the operation of the Who Cares for the Carers? initiative and to present an evaluation by a sample of those who used aspects of the pastoral support package during the first seven years of its operation.

The evaluation of the report has been commended by Archbishop Michael Jackson. “The careful research which has gone into this report enables all of us to know the extent of the valuable work that Who cares for the Carers? has done since its inception. I thank those whose initial support made its introduction possible, my PA for the totally confidential administration of it and Canon Professor Lodge for her clear analysis of its impact for good on clergy who find themselves in spiritual need and personal despair in our United Dioceses in the execution of their work,” he stated.

‘Who Cares for the Carers?’ is the United Dioceses of Dublin & Glendalough’s pastoral support initiative for clergy. It equips clergy and provides resources for dealing with issues they face in ordained ministry. It offers support to clergy in areas of mentoring and support networks, mediation, spiritual support, professional counselling and retreats.

Who Cares for the Carers’ has been in place since 2017 following the completion of The Tanner Report which highlighted extensive research into issues associated with ordained life. It gives scope for encouragement of a fulfilled life on the part of clergy working alongside and in partnership with others, lay and ordained.
