Dublin and Glendalough’s Year of Mission Begins on Sunday

This Sunday (November 30) is Advent Sunday. As the new Church year begins, so too does Dublin and Glendalough’s Year of Mission. As the United Dioceses embark on a shared journey of renewal and purpose, parishes will be encouraged to explore mission in their own contexts – both in their churches and in their wider communities.

On Advent Sunday every parish and church community in Dublin and Glendalough is invited to help launch the Year of Mission. A special Order of Service has been prepared for the occasion by the Revd Ken Rue and the Revd Colin McConaghie and has been sent to all parishes.

Led by the Diocesan Mission Sub Committee, the Year of Mission will be a time to listen afresh for what God is calling us to be and to do. As the dioceses continues to focus on its mission, it is also an opportunity for people in every parish to engage with mission in their own settings.

The Year of Mission is rooted in prayer, flowing from the life of our Diocesan Prayer Movement, which continues to unite us in seeking God’s presence and direction. It is also shaped by consultation and collaboration, as we discern together how best to live out our faith in changing times.

Throughout this year, we are invited to reflect on what ‘mission’ means in our own contexts — in each of our parishes, our schools, and our daily lives — and how we might bear witness to Christ’s love with courage and compassion as together we find new ways of serving our neighbours and communities.

Chairman of the Diocesan Mission Sub Committee, the Revd Rob Clements, encouraged people in every parish to join in the Year of Mission. “I would urge everyone to take this opportunity to reflect on what mission means to you and to consider what actions your parish might take as a community to support people in living out their faith. The United Dioceses plans to create a strong framework for mission but ultimately it is the people and their parishes who breathe life into our plans. It is your intentional actions which inform our mission and inspire others to ‘go and do likewise’ [Luke 10:37],” he said.
