Students from the Grashof Gymnasium in Essen, Germany who recreated ‘A Series of Curious Experiments for the Amusement and Entertainment of Ladies, as well as Gentlemen’ and put their work on YouTube attended the launch of ‘The Marvels of Science – Books That Changed the World’ in Marsh’s Library. The library possesses the only copy of an advertisement for the show which was performed before a paying audience in Dublin in 1743. A professor in the Grashof Gymnasium, Mr Andreas Roth, was shown the original document in Marsh’s in late 2011 and encouraged his students to reproduce the experiments in their school laboratory. Also pictured are the keeper of the library, Dr Jason McElligott and Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Jimmy Deenihan TD.
